About Kiki

So who is this "Kiki" person anyway?

As the oldest of four sisters, with one kiddo and six nieces of nephews, I determined VERY early on that I was gonna pick my own nickname to make sure I got one I liked. I've been Kiki (as in Kiki de Vil, as in Cruella, no Cici, but that's another story) for a long time - ten years at least.

Ok, fine so that's your name, so what?

Simple answer, I have no idea. Not sure how you found this backwater of the interwebs and why are bothering to read the About Me page anyway. How about I tell you why I write this? The elevator speech answer is that I always daydreamed about having a cooking show and blogging about cooking and food is probably about as close as I'm gonna get. Hell, this is definitely it - seeing as how I had a shot at trying out for a show and I couldn't even bother to go to the audition - too chicken.

You're not selling me here....

Yea, well I'm not really trying, am I? But I do love to cook, and I mean LUV! I've been cooking since I was probably seven years old. (I'm definitely gonna recreate that first recipe one of these days) am considered by pretty much everyone who knows me to be excellent at it and I feel like I have a lot to offer - people who ask my advice on cooking keep coming back so I guess I'm doing something right.

Well, what are you gonna talk about then?

In no particular order:
  • New stuff I try - things that work and things that don't
  • Super-easy stuff - things I think of as Bachelor cooking for people who need to eat, and maybe wanna impress someone in the process but don't know which end of a skillet is up.
  • Various food challenges and adventures - you see, I'm from Texas, born and bred and learned to cook here; had a mason jar with bacon drippings kind of cook. My husband was the same type of person, then about a decade or so ago he decided to convert to Judaism and that kinda threw a wrench in the bacon works. Since then I've gotten more into traditional jewish recipes and holiday menus and have had to modify (as best I could) my family favorites to be pork free. NOTE: he is what he calls "biblical" kosher, in that there is a short list of foods he can't eat, mainly pork and shellfish, but doesn't go so far as the "no meat and milk in the same meal" thing - thank goodness!
I'll try to use tags that make sense for what I'm talking about and how I see them all tying together and hopefully it'll make sense in the end.
